Have you ever heard of the Mana series of games? Secret Of Mana, Legend Of Mana, Children Of Mana, Seiken Densetsu…it’s another series of RPGs to come out of Square Enix. I’m not sure about its popularity, but I got to know of this series because of Legend Of Mana for the PS1. And it definitely had some memorable songs.

The same goes for its predecessors. However, even though this remix itself is from Secret Of Mana, it’s not a game I really got to play since I only encountered it in a digital format. But one thing that I’ll NEVER forget about Secret Of Mana is its boss theme. Why? Because unlike every other boss theme out there which may be all orchestration or something of epic proportions, this is one that really makes you feel like you’re fighting a boss. Not something that takes longer to defeat compared to normal enemies, but something that is a threat to your existence and if you screw up you will suffer. Something to be afraid of. This is a role model among boss themes, for it actually instills a certain kind of fear that bosses should always have.

The theme itself has mostly pretty scary content that tells you you’re about to die, but the epic breakdown gives you a glimmer of hope, a representation that the heroes are fighting back, trying to change their fate. This was a very complicated remix, and probably my heaviest remix to date. Core Oppressions lacks in heaviness compared to this. In fact, I’d go as far as calling it videogame death metal. That’s rightfully what it is. But remixing the breakdown was totally worth all that dissonance.

Enjoy!

…also, I finished this in a day! XD

  1. I really enjoy that dissonance. It paints a story of the heroes trying to survive despite this boss overwhelming them. Definitely a new favorite.

    • Yeah, it’s perfect for this theme, and is also in fact quickly becoming the remix I love the most over things like Core Oppression πŸ˜€

  2. epic shit

  3. … I feel just like Sonic after Eggman got alk Chaos Emeralds and fires his giant lazar of doom, like FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU–

  4. […] fun part is that sick melodic breakdown. The way it’s structured reminds me of the flow of Danger from Secret of Mana, which I also did a remix of, where all the hype is built up just to hear “that one awesome part” and it ends up […]
